Classroom Rules
These are the 3 rules to be a successful student in my class:
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Yourself
Each of these rules has specific guidelines that where chosen my the students and myself
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Yourself
Rationale
I have chosen 3 rules for my classroom that are going to help me manage my class efficiently. These 3 rules are broad and overachieving, so they fit all of the student activities (AFT,2014). The rules are broad with supplementary guidelines to help my students understand them. Also, these guidelines will help the students see what expectations I have for them, for each of the rules. They apply to various areas like behavior, classroom procedures, and skills that will help them in the future. The AFT says that four to six rules are appropriate, but I feel that these three rules would be perfect for my classroom.
I believe that these rules would help me create a welcoming environment, but also they cover many situations that might occur in my classroom. A clear set of rules about what is consider appropriate behavior will be a good way to start a well-managed classroom (Emmer and Everston, 27). This I include the guidelines, so my students know how to behave in class. Even though I have only three rules, I plan on handing a packet with more detailed guideline of my policies and procedures. This will let the students know what is expected of them in the classroom and might answer any questions they have.
In the beginning of class I plan on asking my students what other guidelines we can add to the already established rules. According to Emmer and Everston, it is a good idea to engage the students in creating their own rules and to discuss them. I want them to give me some feedback in what they think about them, and also I expect them to have so rules for me, so I know what the students expect from me. These rules would be posted in the classroom in both of the bulletin boards, so students are available to see them and be reminded of them.
